That's also related to me playing PoE on my own and D:OS with a friend though. One thing I can say in favor of PoE is that contrary to D:OS I actually played through it (and the DLCs) completely, while I stopped playing D:OS halfway through. There actually were some interesting parts to story and setting, but I felt it was uneven for all the things that were special and gripping, there were just as many if not more things that were repeating your average fantasy tropes and therefor boring to me. Kai2: Find it interesting that no one is talking about either of these two games in terms of the stories being engaging, exciting, or emotional. Not sure if you will enjoy the game (since you already said that you don't like bird view camera) but I loved the story part of PoE.įor DoS the main focus is the combat. The camera distance is important to manage the party, also PoE 2 is fully voice acted (I, on the contrary, think this is a bad thing, I read faster than the voice and English is not my native language so reading in Italian and listen to a English voice over is not that great), PoE 1 is only partially voice over. The story of Pillars of eternity 1 is really engaging I loved it, it is just one of the many great thing about the game and the only one where you cannot esplain why it's great without spoilers, while the main story of PoE 2 is more a side quest (the great thing about this game are side quests, there are a lot and they are great). Same reason I can't get invested in Diablo.įind it interesting that no one is talking about either of these two games in terms of the stories being engaging, exciting, or emotional. A few have worked for me, but most don't.

Add to that the fact that most of the games aren't voiced, and I tend to feel like I'm watching a boring, silent tv show rather than playing an experience. The camera position has always made me feel distant from both the characters and action. Got the same feeling from DA Inquisition.Īs for games in the IE style, I've never been a big fan. as I'd said before, autosaves weren't an option due to my stupid and desperate decision to search the tavern, but it all turned out alright somehow.Kai2: Agree. it allowed me to break the whole ordeal into three separate encounters. I basically just really delicately snuck up the enemies in order to engage as few of them at a time as possible. I actually managed to beat it by equally cheesy methods. The key is to interrupt those priests as often as possible before they repeatedly heal everyone.ĭo you have an auto-save from when you entered that region ? I tried this battle about 30 times before admitting it was too hard as a level 5 character and just roaming around doing other stuff until I levelled everyone up a notch. At the same I had a ranged attacker aim for one of the priests, and my ranger's wolf attacking the other.

Also picked up a Druid recently with some pretty nice spells, including one that repeatedly casts lightning on an enemy every so often for the whole battle. Cheesey I know, but I was tired of losing this one :) Then immediately and repeatedly fireballing them with my wizard, and hitting them with Pillar of Faith from my Cleric.
